Gingivitis is a gum disease that causes gum inflammation and can lead to receding, tender, puffy or bleeding gums, and even tooth loss if left untreated.

This disease can develop when a film of bacteria (plaque) accumulates on the teeth. If you or someone ate home recently discovered suffering from gingivitis, it’s possible to treat it with a very simple remedy that you can make at home.

Making a saltwater rinse may help reduce the inflammation, as well as ease the pain, remove food particles, improve breath, and reduce bacteria.

To make the saltwater rinse, you just have to add ½ to ¾ tsp of salt to a glass of drinking water at a lukewarm temperature and mix it well. Swish the solution in your mouth for about thirty seconds, and then spit it out.

You can repeat the process two or three times per day. If the gingivitis is more advanced, or the solution isn’t having an effect, we recommend seeing a dentist as soon as possible.

Since we believe prevention is the best medicine, we recommend practicing good oral health by brushing and flossing your teeth regularly, to prevent plaque from forming.
