5 Tips to Stay Productive during Quarantine

Are you working from home during quarantine? Here are some tips to make the most of your time and stay productive.

Although it is possible that even during quarantine you are still working from home, you have probably experienced some difficulty getting done as much as you do on a regular schedule.

Here are some tips you can try to keep a healthy level of productivity during the quarantine.

  1. Write down your to-do list the night before. It’s easy to get sidetracked when working from home, but having a plan will give you an outline of what you need to get done. Having some sort of routine will free you from having to think about what is next every time you finish something.
  2. Do the most important things first. After composing a to-do list, move the most important things at the top, so nothing essential is left undone. The next day, you can start with the things that were left undone, so that you don’t continue carrying them on forever.
  3. Schedule some free time. It’s possible that when the break arrives if you are having a productive momentum, you end up wanting to get something else done. What counts is having the option to take a break. You may try to book every last minute of the day with tasks and projects, but sometimes, unexpected things come up, and sometimes you simply need a break.
  4. Don’t multitask. Although it could make you feel more productive, getting multiple tasks done at the same time only reduces the attention you are paying to each task. In other words, you are focusing on everything and nothing at the same time. Of course, you can probably listen to an audiobook while you do the dishes, but trying to accomplish several tasks that require thinking at the same time can lead to mistakes, and actually take longer. Besides, it will possibly leave you mentally and/or emotionally drained.
  5. Focus on the essential. Having extra time at home can make you feel the need to do all the things you never have time to do. It is very important that before you add any item to your to-do list or routine, you ask yourself if you HAVE to do it, WANT to do it, or if you are adding it to the list because you think it is considered productive or expected of you. Just like multitasking, adding things to your list that you don’t have to, nor want to do, but you think are expected of you, will drain you emotionally and mentally, and will take up time that you could use to do the things that are really important to you.
