5 Tips to Preserve Your Veggies so They Last Longer

The sudden change to the hot weather often makes it difficult to preserve your food fresh. Here are five tips to make your fruits and veggies last longer.

With the temperature rising, and the weather being uncertain, it’s possible you are stuck between enjoying the first warm days of spring or blasting the air conditioner. While this can be tolerable for humans, fruits and vegetables tend to overreact.

Today, Team Salud brings you five natural, easy ways to preserve your fruits and veggies so they last longer.

  • Some fruits or vegetables do better when stored in dryer conditions. Placing your leftover watermelon in a strainer will help you keep it crisp for up to a week. You can store it in the same strainer, covering the top with plastic wrap, and placing a dish underneath, to collect any leftover water. In order to keep your tomatoes fresh, remove the stem, and place them upside down in a Tupper, and cover them with a lid.
  • Grab the lettuce leaves, separate them, and wash them thoroughly. While they are still damp, place them in a fabric napkin and wrap them loosely. Place the napkin inside a Tupper and close it. You can also do this with green scallions and cilantro, and it will help you keep your green veggies fresh and crisp.
  • If you have any wilted herbs, you don’t need to toss them. Place them in a baking sheet, spread around, to avoid clumps. Bake them until they are thoroughly dried, and you have your own homemade dried herbs.
  • In a pot, boil vinegar with sugar and salt stirring occasionally and let it cool down. You can use this mixture to pickle cauliflower, onions, bell peppers, and cucumbers.
  • Wrap carrots, celery, or cucumbers tightly in aluminum foil to keep your veggies crunchy.

We hope these tips help you keep your veggies healthy and flavorful for longer. Let us know in the comment if you know of any other useful tips, or if any of these have worked for you.
